90% of it migrated to India and out of which 85% survived.

Total migration = 1.291*0.9*0.85 = 0.988 million.

They migrated to Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi post independence.
In 1941, East Punjab’s (Punjab + Haryana + Himachal Pradesh) population was 17 million.
In 2011, Punjab’s population is 2.8 crore, Haryana population is 2.5 crore. And Himachal Pradesh’s population is 78 lakhs.
Total East Punjab’s population is 6.1 crore.
Roughly, Khatri/Arora population should be 3.5x from 1931 = Around 34.5 lakhs.
However, upper castes have lower birth rates than lower castes. Similar to how Muslims were 9% in 1951 and are 14% now.
Meaning, that most likely the population of Khatri/Arora should be around 28 lakhs today.
In 1936, Khatri and Arora were merged together as a single group and is now known as Khatri.
